Here are a few tips and rules to follow
when you decide to take a trip to this fantastic country. You will find
some ironic, others very realistic. A little like the laws of Murphy... In Thailand never hurry, time and distance do not exist. If you ask how far somewhere is, forget it! Thais will always say only a few minutes away, when it is really pretty far. Geckos in the room are lucky, cockroaches a lot less, but they are delicious fried with sugar. Leave your watch at home, you won't need it. If you book a seat on a minivan to go somewhere and you ask the driver the seating capacity of the vehicle, the answer will always be one more than the available seats. |

If you see a drunken thai, change direction. You have two
possibilities either he's dangerous or he'll offer you a drink and you'll
end up drunk too! In Thailand they drive on the left (like in the UK). But be carefull some Thais drink a little too much at lunch time. Never get angry. Thais are always happy and don't like sudden changes of humour. You will never see a thai girl in a bathing suit. They hate them. (unless they are in the company of a european tourist or "farang") In Thailand you can do what you want, but don't make use of drugs. You can drink as much as you like even in front of the police station, nobody will say anything as long as you remember to pay the bill! |

Thais eat at least 10 times a day and they are a size 38. Life goes by slowly and therefore if don't know what to do , have a beer at the local pharmacy. Some sell drinks from a fridge at convenient prices. When you have finally bought some souvenirs after a lot of bartering and the Thai gives you a huge smile, you have probably been overcharged and he/she will obviously welcome you back the next day. Careful if you rent a scooter or motorbike, give way to larger vehicles or smaller ones if their horn is louder than yours. Once you have rented a motorbike keep in mind that there is a possibility that after 1 km you will probably get a flat tyre.. Who knows why, but this often happens. The roadside is full of nails, screws and all sorts of other things that vehicles have lost..… |

| If you cross
a busy road, look and walk straight ahead , the drivers will avoid you
by wizzing to the left and to the right .You are only an obstacle in the
middle of the road. If a Thai invites you for a drink ( be it man or lady), you will always end up paying the bill . Why? The best beer is always the brand that the locals drink, your choice will always be inferior. The meter for the taxi driver is only a box with lights. It will always be off or broken when you get in. 50% of the taxi-boat drivers don't know how to swim and can't read but they certainly know numbers and prices in English! Especially those in Ao nang (krabi) . |

| Set prices for
trips are written on boards at the pier but they will surely rise in
price as soon as they see you. The baht is not a small coin and if you save a lot of them ,they make a big difference. The cost of living in Thailand is low but then why are we always getting cash from the ATM machines..! If after the second day of rain you are fed up, go down in beach and have a swim. That way you'll have cheated the weather!!. If you venture off to the beer or go go bars, watch out!! you could be picked up by a lady boy or shemale. Don't complain when you get a surprise. If on the other hand a beautiful girl chats you up, you will probably think she is too pretty to be a real lady and you'll have doubts!... Ladies working in beer bars drink more than a bull could handle, let alone you! |

| If you book
one hour thai massage , be careful not to fall asleep immediately else
you will only get a 10 minute massage and in the meantime the masseuse
will probably be having a bite to eat. If you ask a 5 star hotel how much a room costs and it is too expensive for you , the receptionist will always say that all the other hotels are fully booked and that there is only 1 room left... Watch out for the tides and vacation location. If during the day the tide is low you could end up not having a swim at all, unless you do so at night.. If you rent a bungalow next to a thai village don't forget your ear plugs if you want to get some sleep. Cocks start crowing from 2 in the morning till about 6 in the afternoon. |
